Disc Golf Overview

So you're interested in disc golf, eh.. You're attention is definitely in the right place. This game was created less than 50 years ago and has been growing in popularity exponentially since it burst onto the scene in the 1970's. The level of popularity it enjoys is almost astounding when you consider most games of the same caliber took centuries to develop. What does it all mean? This game is a great time!

All 50 states in America as well as 100's of countries across the globe now contain courses. The game is very similar to regular golf with the primary difference being players throw discs at targets made with hanging chains that capture the disc.

Like golf, the primary goal is to get the disc into the target in as little throws as possible. Unlike golf, its extremely cheap. Almost all of the courses are located in public parks and are free for use. Instead of a set of clubs costing $100's of dollars, the game can be played with 1 disc costing around $10-$15.

The game's popularity has has spawned much innovation and technology into the science of discs. Discs can now fly faster, longer, and in a variety of flight patterns. Check out this disc overview to learn what to look for when purchasing discs.

With higher demand has come a much higher number of companies who now produce discs. Most companies offer more than 20 different models of discs each with its own strengths/weaknesses.

Check out this list of manufacturers making disc golf equipment for summaries and reviews of each as well as links to great deals for buying their products online.

The story of how the game originated is quite entertaining in the fact that a majority of the game's popularity or even existence, can be attributed to 1 man. Read the tale of Ed Headrick. Check out the game's history.

If you're ready to play the game, I've put together some easy to follow instructions with pictures, describing disc golf rules.
